Encircledby i lie mountains, rich in lush tropical forests, the ancient temple is located by the gently flowing river with a charming name, Soupamika.Kollur, a quiet place charged with heavenly peace, in the alley of Kudajaadri, is 140 kms from Mangalore city, on the north-eastern border of Udupi district in Karnataka State. Mangalore is accessible by air, train and bus. Kollur is about Imagethree and a half hours drive from Mangalore. Buses pass through the towns, Udupi and Kundapur. On the way to, or while returning from Kollur, one may get down in Udupi (about one hour drive from Mangalore) to worship at the famous Sri Krishna temple. While nearing Kundapur (one hour journey from Udupi) there is the Annegudde Sri Ganesha temple and Sri Koteshwara temple at Koteshwar. From Kundapur it is about two hours journey to Kollur via Byndoor and one hour and a half through a shorter route via Vandse. On the way via Vandse, 18 kms before reaching Kollur, there is an ancient shrine at Maranakatte where the great mystic symbol Srichakram is worshipped. This temple, which has a legendary association with Sri Mookambika temple, has a large collection of very artistically carved and painted rustic figurines of wood and stone of the chieftains and retinue of SriSouparnika bathing ghat (Photo.Srikant)
