THE Jyothirlingam and Its Significance

In front of the blissful form, projects a little above the floor level the ancient Jyothirlingam, almost flat and round, potent with great mystic power. Legend has it that it was self-bom in the 2X”‘ DwaaparaYuga of the present Manvanthara, when the sage Kola Maharshi was doing austerities there. Thatmeans it is very very ancient. The golden line vi i ibolizes their oneness. The right part figuratively represents Brahma (the terms Brahman and Brahma denote different i • incepts), Vishnu and Shiva, the causative principles of creation,
maintenance and dissolution. The larger left part represents Mahaa Saraswathi, Mahaa Lakshmi and, Mahaa Kaali, the three functional aspects of the active divine energy, Shakthi. Mahaa Saraswathi represents the aspect that playfully stirs up from itself a mystic rhythm to originate a Primordial Nature (Moola- prahithi) of infinite possibilities and makes it evolve into infinite forms through the means of self-fortifying inbuilt knowledge andImageThe Jyothirlinga divided by a golden line into a large left anda smaller right prtcreative urge, Mahaa Lakshmi is that aspect of the Divine Power involved in the maintenance of the grand phenomena and Mahaa Kaali, the Power that withdraws the whole into the total oneness of Brahman.
