Shri Purandra Dasa was in Vijayanagara by 1540. He propagated the path of devation through his evotional songs, in Kannada.
I hereby he worked for the development of Kannada Literature too. The Purandara Mantapa named after him is on the bank of the I ungabhadra. There is a statue of Purandara Dasa in tliis mantapa. Near this place we can see the ruins of the old bridge built by the kings of Vijayanagara. It connected Anegundi to Vijayanagar.
