MADURAI KSHETHRA – Palamudircholai Murugan Temple

This is one of the six of the holiest of Morgan shrines refered to as the Aarupadai Veedugal.
Unlike the other five temples, there is no grand edifice surrounding the central shrine of worship. However, this is a holy shrine venerated by the Skanda purana and by Nakkeerar’s Thirumurugatrupadai of the Sangam period. Arunagirinathar’s Thirupugazh also reveres this shrine. This shrine is located on a hill adjacent to the Alagar Temple. Here Sri Morgan where he graces the devotees with his consorts Valli and Deivanai. The wedding festival is celebrated along with Skanda Sashti festival. Also, this is the historical place where Lord played with the ripe Tamil poetess Advaita asking her what fruit she wished, cooked or uncooked – Sutta Pazham or Sudadha Pazham.
It is at a distance of 3.4 Kms from foothill. One can reach Pazhamudircholai by car, van, two-wheeler or bus. There is a bus shuttle every 20 minutes from the foot of hill to the Temple. It takes approximately 15 minutes to reach the temple.
